PHMC plans to have the Niagara ready for July, announces US’ 250th anniversary plans

(WJET/WFXP)– After several months of renovation and being missing from Erie’s harbor for even longer, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is reaffirming their plans to have the US Brig Niagara back in town for America’s 250th birthday.

The PHMC unveiled its plans for Pennsylvania 250: The Keystone of American History, a year-long celebration of the commonwealth’s role in American history, which included having the US Brig Niagara in Erie by July 2 at the Erie Maritime Museum.

The US Brig Niagara has been undergoing renovations in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, since September 2025 and has not sailed since losing its propeller in 2023, cutting its season short.
