GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids man was placed on probation Wednesday for a safe storage violation after a teen got ahold of an unsecured gun and accidentally shot himself.
Melvin House was charged with a safe storage violation causing injury. It stems from a November 2024 shooting at the man’s house on Sherman Street SE.

A 15-year-old family member was shot in the shoulder, but recovered.
Kent County Circuit Court Judge Paul Denenfeld placed House on probation for three years. House had been facing up to five years in prison.
