Large dredging pipe spotted floating off Myrtle Beach coast

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A large dredging pipe was spotted floating just off the Myrtle Beach coast Wednesday, sparking online speculation about exactly what the object was.

Myrtle Beach Police spokesman Randolph Angotti told News13 the object belonged to a dredging company, and tugboats were set to collect it around 4 p.m.

City officials said the 500-foot-long dredging pipe fell off a barge en route to North Myrtle Beach as part of an ongoing renourishment project.

Work began in North Myrtle Beach in December. The final reach, covering Garden City and Surfside Beach, is expected to begin in April 2026…
