YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — There were no injuries after a trash chute fire at a Walmart on George Washington Memorial Highway Wednesday afternoon, according to the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety.
On Jan. 7 at around 1 p.m., the department’s personnel were dispatched to a report of a fire at a Walmart in the 2600 block of George Washington Memorial Highway. When crews arrived, they saw smoke and fire coming from a trash chute near the back of the building. Crews also surveyed the rest of the building to make sure there was no smoke or fire inside the store.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire and performed overhaul operations to ensure it didn’t reignite. The area that was affected by the fire was ventilated to clear the smoke.
The building wasn’t evacuated, and the fire didn’t pose any danger to the community…
