SU music legend’s song sees huge jump in streaming from ‘Stranger Things’

A song written by a legendary Syracuse University alumnus is seeing a huge jump in popularity thanks to “Stranger Things.”

Cowboy Junkies’ “Sweet Jane,” written by Lou Reed, was played briefly in the final episode of the Netflix TV series. The Canadian alt-country band’s cover from the 1988 album “The Trinity Session” plays as Steve (Djo singer Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Robin (Maya Hawke) share drinks on the rooftop of the fictional radio station WSQK (“The Squawk”).

“You’re waiting down on the corner / And thinking of ways to get back home,” the lyrics go. “Sweet Jane, sweet Jane / Ah, sweet, sweet Jane.”…
