Fungus infection cases hit 41 in Kansas: KDHE

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Kansas health officials say dozens of people were stricken by a hard to treat and potentially deadly fungus in 2025.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is monitoring the spread of Candida auris cases. The agency describes C. auris as a “multidrug-resistant fungal pathogen” that poses a large health risk to people who have severe underlying health conditions, complex healthcare needs or invasive medical devices like breathing tubes.
