‘Landmark gift’: Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture unveils recently donated sculpture

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture (MAC) unveiled a new permanent addition to its sculpture collection on Wednesday morning, calling the donation a “landmark gift for Spokane” in a press release.

The Deborah Butterfield piece, named “Untitled” and depicting a horse, was originally constructed from driftwood and then cast in bronze. Bronze and patina are listed as the piece’s materials on its placard at the museum.

“Long celebrated for conveying stillness and quiet dignity through the figure of the horse, Butterfield is recognized as one of the most influential sculptors of her generation,” the museum wrote in a press release…
