Police standoff against a man with a sword

At 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan 4, in Ypsilanti, the police got a call initiating a wellness check on a Ruben Peeler, name sourced from WEMU News. Aged 53, his neighbor reported him for trying to break into their home, whilst holding a metal sword. As of Jan. 8, confidential information regarding the occupation of the man is not yet released to the public.

After police arrived at the scene, Peeler proceeded to charge at the officers, holding the sword in one hand, a stick in the other, then ran inside and barricaded himself within the upper levels of his home.

Concerned neighbors gathered outside shortly after reports of the incident came out. People who knew Peeler wanted to make it clear, to both the police and news broadcasters, that he had a long history of mental illness. His mother recently passed, and that they wanted nothing more than to provide help for the man in need. Peeler’s house was a rental, with the landlord’s mother living on the lower level, and people soon found out he was behind on paying rent from losing his job.
