Drivers seriously injured in head-on crash that closed Highway 51 for hours

STOUGHTON, Wis. — U.S. Highway 51 was blocked east of Stoughton Thursday morning because of a crash. The highway was closed between Pleasant Hill Road and Tower Drive. All lanes reopened at around 9:15 a.m.

The crash was reported just after 5 a.m. According to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses reported that a pickup truck lost control, crossed the center line and hit a Volkswagen Jetta head-on.

Both drivers were pinned inside their vehicles and seriously injured. UW MedFlight took the driver of the pickup to UW Hospital, while Lakeside EMS took the Jetta driver to St. Mary’s Hospital…
