CSPD: Suspect arrested for racketeering, murder after shelter-in-place

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A suspect has been arrested on multiple charges including racketeering following a shelter-in-place order in southeast Colorado Springs on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) was in the area of Grand Overlook Street on the southeast side of the city looking for Yorvis Carrascal-Campo, who was wanted on a federal warrant including charges of racketeering conspiracy, murder in aid of racketeering, aiding and abetting, and conspiracy.

CSPD said when federal agents attempted to take Carrascal-Campo into custody, he ran away, jumping fences in the surrounding neighborhood. CSPD said officers were requested by HSI, and detectives responded to set up a perimeter. A CSPD K9 unit searched the neighborhood while the Real Time Crime Center drone provided aerial surveillance.

CSPD said Carrascal-Campo was located hiding in a shed in a nearby backyard. Carrascal-Campo was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail without further incident.

UPDATE: Shelter-in-place lifted for Grand Overlook Street

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has lifted the shelter-in-place for the area surrounding the 1400 block of Grand Overlook Street. As of 1:55 p.m. on Jan. 7, all in the area can resume normal activity.
