FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The City of Fort Wayne and the Fort Wayne Urban League will host a fair housing series in February as part of Black History Month.
City and community leaders say the series will provide residents the opportunity to view the four-part documentary The Shame of Chicago, Shame of the Nation for free every Wednesday over the month.
The documentary explores the extensive system of racially segregated housing in Chicago during the 1950s, detailing how, after courts ruled that restrictive covenants based on race could not be enforced, hundreds of homes owned by black families in white neighborhoods were firebombed.
