AG holds roundtable to bring awareness to human trafficking

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Attorney General Dana Nessel held a roundtable in Lansing Thursday afternoon, to bring awareness to human trafficking.

Dozens of advocates gathered to discuss what is being done and where they can improve. Last year, there were 2,000 more cases than in 2024, according to Michigan Human Trafficking Commission Chair Melissa Palepu.

“I’m a little bit terrified of what’s going to happen in 2026,” said Palepu.

Palepu compared reports of human trafficking to an iceberg, saying there is often more activity than is able to be identified. Meanwhile, the number of investigations she is seeing in her office are remaining stagnant…
