Update: Man who shot intruder at East Memphis apartment charged with manslaughter

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man police say fired several shots at an intruder who broke into his East Memphis apartment early Thursday morning has been charged with voluntary manslaughter.

Marques Griffin, 30, was booked in the Shelby County Jail hours after the shooting in the 1200 block of Robin Hood Lane.

At around 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a prowler call at the residence and found a man lying in a courtyard area outside the apartment suffering from multiple gunshots. He later died at the hospital.

According to the affidavit of complaint, Griffin told police he fired three shots at the intruder after he ran out of his apartment.
