TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — Affordable healthcare is top of mind for many across the state as the debate on the national level continues to intensify. With lawmakers heading back up to Tallahassee in a matter of days, advocates continue to demand new policy on the state level.Before we know it, Florida’s Capitol will be back in full swing with affordability at the forefront. Health care advocates are urging lawmakers to take action on policies that make it more accessible.“This 2026 legislative session could be remembered as a turning point in Florida, when Florida chose to protect families, support healthy births and childhoods, and build a stronger, more equitable future for our state,” said Melanie Williams, Florida Health Justice Project.
Theres a number of bills supporters like Williams are pushing for this session like, protections around medical debt, a doula workforce program, and a bill looking to improve dental coverage for those with disabilities, while also continuing to fight to expand Medicaid and protect reproductive rights.
Over in the lower chamber, House leadership is rolling out a sweeping health care agenda this session that aims to create a new “Frontier” in health care.
