Every time I walk a new trail in Tallahassee, I’m stunned by how little I’ve seen of the place I love. I’ve hiked dozens of our best trails around town, but with over 700 miles of them it seems I’ve only scratched the surface. Amazingly, that list keeps getting longer and I’m not sure I’ll ever fully catch up. However, it’s certainly a challenge I’m up for.
The holidays are always a good opportunity to make a dent in that quest. This year, my wife and I wanted to get a look at some of the trails near our new home. We decided to dive into the trails at Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park. While I’ve been to the park many times I had yet to set foot on the trails there. Not surprisingly, what we discovered was another gorgeous reminder of how special our hometown is.
Something magical happens when you start walking through the woods. Your blood pressure drops. You get pleasure from a completely different kind of dopamine. There’s a rush of reminders that it’s OK to slow down and take a deep breath. Most importantly, every step helps you remember to love where you live…
