Lafayette proposes new juvenile center to address crime surge

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — The Acadiana Regional Juvenile Justice District aims to build a Juvenile Detention facility to address rising juvenile crime rates across the nine-parish region.

The proposed facility will be 30,000 square feet and will focus on educational and mental health programs intended to reduce juvenile offenses. District Member Jessie Bellard noted that this facility would significantly aid law enforcement and provide a structured environment for juveniles in need.
