A Morgan County circuit judge sentenced a husband and wife to life in prison on Wednesday for beating their 3-year-old daughter to the point of hospitalization, telling the man he would have years behind bars to reflect on his actions and criticizing the woman for attempting to conceal the abuse.
Hartselle resident Lance Destin Campbell, 30, appeared before Circuit Judge Charles Elliott in shackles and jail clothing, his head down, alongside his attorney, Kevin Teague of Decatur. Morgan County Assistant District Attorneys Courtney Schellack and Kelly Cimino represented the state.
Elliott opened the hearing by asking the defense if it had anything to say on Lance Campbell’s behalf. Teague asked the judge to consider his client’s educational background, describing Campbell as a “slow learner.”…
