LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Early into 2026, the flu season is off to a rough start, and as people return to work and students go back to school, health officials expect it to get worse.
“Locally at UK, we’re seeing more than usual [flu cases] at an earlier peak, and some are very seriously ill,” infection prevention and control medical director at UK Healthcare, Dr. Nicholas Van Sickels, said.
Officials said, like many parts of the nation, central Kentucky was experiencing an earlier rise in cases.
