Tributes pour in for 3 killed in crash on Johnson Street in Lafayette: ‘Our hearts are broken’

Tributes have poured in for the three people who died in a multi-car crash early Tuesday morning on Johnston Street in Lafayette.

Cherita Washington, 36, her daughter Chase Washington, 17, both of Duson, and Joseph Prejean, 21, of Lafayette, died in the crash, according to the Lafayette Police Department.

Washington’s car was stopped at about 5:15 a.m. at a red light on East Broussard Road, waiting to turn right onto Johnston Street, when Prejean’s car hit the back of Washington’s car, the police department said.
