A former DC Human Resources employee resigned after she was caught adding herself and her grandson as beneficiaries to her son’s life insurance policy less than two hours before his death, according to a settlement with the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability that was finalized last November.
At about 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, 2024, Donnetta Jackson, a former communications specialist for DCHR, used her credentials to log in to her son’s D.C. government employee portal and changed his password. (Jackson’s son was a Metropolitan Police Department officer.)
Prior to Sept. 15, the officer had not listed any beneficiaries for his life insurance policy, according to BEGA. But at approximately 6:33 p.m. on the day he died, the disbursement was updated to include Jackson and the officer’s son (Jackson’s grandson) as beneficiaries.
