DA: Larimer County deputy who shot at suspect acted in self-defense

A Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy acted in self-defense when he shot at a suspect after a vehicle pursuit in Berthoud in November, the 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced Jan. 7.

The determination came following the district attorney’s office review of the Critical Incident Response Team investigation into the pursuit, which ended when Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy Chris Connor conducted a driving maneuver to stop the suspect’s vehicle and then shot at the suspect when he said he believed the suspect was attempting to drive into him, 8th Judicial District Attorney Gordon McLaughlin said in a decision letter released Jan. 7.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Matthew Wright, was not hit by gunfire, but he was minorly injured in the crash that ended the pursuit. There was also a passenger in Wright’s vehicle who was not injured and was not charged with a crime…
