Two regional hospitals mandate masks in high-risk areas amid flu spike

Two major Virginia health systems, Inova and UVA Health, have reinstated mandatory masking in their emergency departments and urgent care centers as flu and other respiratory illnesses spike across the state.

Effective Monday, Dec. 29, Inova began categorizing all its emergency departments and urgent care centers as “high-risk” areas, requiring masks for all team members, patients and visitors.

Masking remains mandatory in other high-risk clinical spaces, including oncology and transplant units at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, all neonatal intensive care units, and all newborn nurseries, Inova said in a news release…
