NC leaders propose new rail system

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – A new study from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) suggests a rail system to Asheville could significantly boost the local economy.

The study looked at re-establishing rail service from Salisbury to Asheville. Construction would help support more than 5,000 jobs and generate more than $33 million in local and state tax dollars. Once complete, the corridor would be expected to create $60 million in annual revenue.

State leaders and railroad representatives will discuss the project at the Railroads and Regional Economic Development conference in March…
