2 men arrested for shots fired incident on New Year’s Day

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Downtown District detectives arrested two men for their alleged roles in a shots fired incident that occurred just after midnight on New Year’s Day.

On Jan. 1, just after midnight, IMPD Downtown District officers and other officers assigned to assist with public safety on New Year’s Eve heard gunshots being fired in a parking lot near the first block of East Washington Street. Officers detained multiple people, including Claude Sanders and Paul Milton. During their investigation, officers found three firearms, one spent shell casing, and suspected cocaine. Sanders and Milton were arrested that night. Sanders was charged by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) in the following days with criminal recklessness and possession of cocaine.

During follow-up investigations, IMPD Downtown District Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF) detectives found video showing two men, believed to be Sanders and Milton, shooting handguns into the air. Milton is considered a serious violent felon due o a prior rape conviction. The MCPO charged Milton with possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and criminal recklessness, and issued a warrant for his arrest…
