Norcross Man Charged with Murder in Birthday Celebration Shooting at DeKalb County Gas Station

A man has been taken into custody by law enforcement for the fatal shooting of a woman who was commemorating her birthday in DeKalb County, with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirming the arrest of 22-year-old Gregory Dennis of Norcross. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Dennis was apprehended on Monday at a Gwinnett County hospital, an effort involving the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service.

Dennis faces charges for murder and aggravated assault stemming from the October incident that claimed the life of Kinaya Hightower, who was shot at an Exxon gas station located at 3000 Moreland Avenue around 2:27 a.m. on October 26; law enforcement officials believe Hightower was an innocent bystander during a shootout that erupted amid a car meet-up, Hightower was celebrating with friends when the tragedy unfolded, finding herself tragically caught in the midst of violence she did not provoke.

Currently, Dennis remains confined in the Gwinnett County Jail, awaiting a transfer to DeKalb County, where he will stand trial for the crime.
