A South Austin bike ride ended in tragedy after a collision with a motorcycle at a busy neighborhood intersection late last month. The crash happened Dec. 23 at South 1st Street and West Slaughter Lane. The cyclist, 58-year-old Jeffrey House, was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and died on Jan. 3. The motorcycle driver was also hospitalized, according to police.
According to CBS Austin, Austin police say House was struck by a motorcycle at the intersection, and both he and the rider were taken to a hospital. The outlet reports House died Jan. 3. Investigators have not announced any charges or released additional details about what led to the collision. CBS Austin also noted that the crash is being counted among Austin’s traffic fatalities for 2025.
