Record number of adoptions set at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa — Last year was a record-setting year for the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, from adoptions to expansions.

In 2025, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa saw 9,248 adoptions, 600 more than the old record set in 2023. Part of that was due to large-scale rescues taken in by the Animal Rescue League, which made up over 900 of the adoptions. Some of those were not from central Iowa but were still brought to the ARL.

The Animal Rescue League also expanded its horse farm in 2025, acquiring a property just east of the ARL Main location. That expansion has provided a place for most animals that aren’t dogs and cats.

In 2026, the Animal Rescue League plans to convert the former ranch to a triage center for large rescues. They also hope to build an indoor dog park…
