Hotel of Terror owner submits signatures to fight eminent domain

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The owner of Hotel of Terror turned in thousands of signatures to the City of Springfield on Friday as he fights to prevent losing his longtime business to the eminent domain process.

Springfield City Council voted unanimously to begin the eminent domain process on Monday Dec. 15. The city is looking to begin the process to replace the North Main Avenue bridge that sits just south of the building as part of the Renew Jordan Creek Project.

The business has been family-owned since 1978, started by the parents of current owner Sterling Mathis.

The deadline to turn in the signatures is 30 days from that vote, which is set for next Wednesday by 5 p.m…
