Liberty Lake Library has been struggling for nearly two decades to rally community support for a new facility

The Liberty Lake Municipal Library is tucked away on East Mission Street, just off the main drag of Appleway Avenue, out of view from the busiest parts of the growing city. But on a Friday afternoon in early January, at least 10 cars pull in and out of the small parking lot in the span of an hour.

The main room is warm and welcoming, with information and circulation desks to the left and several rows of bookshelves to the right. Computers are scattered throughout and, in the back, a children’s room full of materials for kids sits beyond a set of glass double doors.

Since 2004, just a year after Liberty Lake passed an ordinance to establish a municipal library (and three years after Liberty Lake officially became a city), the Liberty Lake Library has been a vital part of the city, offering resources and materials to community members seeking information or simply a rainy day read…
