Erie police looking for new way to fund ShotSpotter tech before losing it

ShotSpotter is a network of wireless acoustic sensors and human verification to detect gunfire within seconds, alerting 911 dispatchers and officers in the field in a few minutes.

The City of Erie Police Department has been using the system over the years to help minimize gunshot violence, but they can soon lose it.

While the price is undetermined, the Police Chief for the City of Erie, Rick Lorah, said it will not be dependent on the people of Erie’s tax dollars.

“It’s not something that we’re looking to burn the taxpayers with. We have a grant that we’ve currently applied for that would pay for the subscription. We won’t know if we get that grant till September,” Lorah said…
