U.S. Army Corps provides update on Cherry Grove beach renourishment reassessment

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers decided not to place new sand in the area north of 60th Avenue North in Cherry Grove after a reassessment this week.

The corps beach renourishment project manager, Sonja Carter, said multiple factors went into this decision, including dune height. She said the area has a very large dune system in front of it, creating a safety net, and making the risk factor for the area low.

The HOA president of Sea Marsh One, Mary-Jane Ambrogi, said she is extremely disappointed with the decision. She said the area will be in grave danger if/when a storm comes through…
