Richmond leaders pledge action after string of pedestrian deaths

Since December 2025, six pedestrians have been killed while walking in various parts of the City of Richmond. Two of the fatalities have occurred since New Year’s Day.

City leaders, including Mayor Danny Avula and Police Chief Rick Edwards, addressed the issue in a press conference Thursday, saying that traffic deaths should never be accepted as routine.

“Every person who walks or rides in Richmond deserves to feel safe, and I know that right now, many walkers and others don’t feel that way,” Avula said…
