SHREVEPORT, La. — The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s office is sounding the alarm on a troubling trend — more young girls are ending up in juvenile detention.
In 2025, nearly half of the 24-bed facility’s inmates were female, often for domestic disputes or being ungovernable, rather than traditional juvenile crimes. The Shreveport Police Department says one of the contributors to the increase in violence is social media.
“A lot of times it starts with bullying or bickering or some type of beef, so to speak, on social media. And it leads to individuals fighting and in some cases even producing weapons. And unfortunately, you know, when we have stabbings in our city, we are seeing a disproportionate amount, are stabbings are being performed by females,” SPD Cpl. Chris Bordelon said…
