Union Pacific announces coast-to-coast tour for famous ‘Big Boy’ steam engine in 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – As the organizations across the country prepare for the nation’s 250th birthday, Union Pacific is set to roll out one of its historic attractions.

Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, will hit the railroad tracks all over the United States in 2026 to celebrate the landmark year.

A schedule has not yet been released.

According to Union Pacific, eight Big Boy engines remain in existence, but only No. 4014 continues to operate. The seven other remaining Big Boys are on public display in St. Louis, Missouri; Dallas, Texas; Omaha, Nebraska; Denver, Colorado; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Green Bay, Wisconsin; and Cheyenne, Wyoming…
