Temple Square mission discontinued, but new approach allows continued service from sister missionaries

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called new mission presidents for 188 missions worldwide, and as a part of that, the Temple Square mission has been discontinued in a new approach designed to increase missionary opportunities.

The Temple Square mission is going away, but sister missionaries will continue serving on Temple Square. Sister missionaries will instead be assigned to a surrounding mission, and they will divide their time between Temple Square and a teaching area.

According to the Church, this change is in line with models used at other temple visitors’ centers worldwide. Additionally, it will allow for more missionaries to serve on Temple Square during peak visitor periods, which will enhance the guest experience.
