Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office uses drone to find runaway teen

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – The Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office found a runaway 14-year-old girl using a drone Tuesday, January 6.

Two social workers were transporting the girl from West Virginia to a behavioral health facility in Newport News, Virginia, in compliance with a court order, according to deputies. While traveling through Rockbridge County, the transport team made a brief stop at 7-Eleven on North Lee Highway, according to deputies. Deputies say the girl exited the vehicle and fled the area on foot.

Deputies with the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately and initiated a coordinated search effort, working in close collaboration with the Lexington Police Department, the Virginia Military Institute Police Department, and the Rockbridge Regional Public Safety Communications Center…
