Next week, Columbus City Council will consider legislation to establish a new land use plan, a step that officials say is necessary before moving forward with the city’s larger zoning reform effort.
The new map addresses parts of the city that are recommended for mixed-use developments; industrial and warehouse uses; and business and institutional campuses. The mixed-use category is further divided into three different types, with the areas designated Mixed Use 3 judged to be the best places for developments reaching eight or more stories in height.
The plan is meant to update and standardize what has been a scattershot approach to land use recommendations over the years – the city produced neighborhood plans that have land use suggestions in them, but the most recent of those was released in 2018, while the oldest dates to 1994…
