PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A veteran deputy sheriff charged with second-degree sexual assault and simple assault has resigned from the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs, Target 12 has learned.
Just last Friday, Target 12 reported that Winston Cruz, 59, of Providence, was placed on administrative leave following his arrest by R.I. State Police.
State Police Maj. John Allen confirmed that Cruz’s resignation was effective days later, as of Jan. 6. Allen previously told Target 12 that Cruz had been employed by the state for 20 years.
