The Florida State Seminoles saw a mass exodus of players when the transfer portal window opened on Jan. 2. However, they have compensated with a strong influx of new talent. It remains uncertain if this roster will be better than the one FSU put on the field last season, and that won’t be known until closer to August. Seminoles land high-potential cornerback Karson Hobbs in transfer portal.
Edwin Joseph and Cai Bates are the two defensive backs the Noles have lost to the transfer portal so far. Those two have now been replaced. The first player the Noles landed from the portal was Nehemiah Chandler, a former South Alabama cornerback who was highly sought after by major programs. Similarly, Hobbs also received significant interest from top schools, making both new additions comparable in demand to the players they replaced.Hobbs earned a high rating as a three-star cornerback in the 2024 recruiting class. His 6’1 frame attracts attention from many teams, fueling predictions about his potential. Hobbs ranked among the top 55 CBs in the country in 2024. He ran a 4.4 40-yard dash and reached 21.9 mph in a game, according to Notre Dame’s website. South Carolina and Kentucky aggressively pursued him after high school.
As a freshman, Hobbs didn’t play much. However, against the Miami Hurricanes in that win, he nearly intercepted a pass. There were plenty of plays like that showing his potential. As a sophomore this past season, Hobbs played in seven games. He recorded one start, five tackles, and one interception against NC State.Hobbs is coming into the Seminoles program with hopes of a chance to start. Given how bad their secondary was last season, he will have a great chance. He could play a big role in Garnet and Gold in 2026…
