MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – The City of Marion says the first step of its housing plan is essentially complete and it’s now working to create a pilot program to further invest in the city’s existing homes.
A housing study in Marion in 2022 found 43% of surveyed buildings needed major structural repairs. Since then, the city completed 23 reinvestment projects using ARPA funds, but city manager Kim Downs said the city didn’t have enough funding to accept all applicants.
Marion is planning to go to the Iowa Economic Development Authority on February 4th to request $1.5 million in funding. Downs said the extra money would open the door to bigger reinvestment projects for more people…
