Middlebrook Elementary traffic issues tied to arts academy status

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A reported social media complaint about student pick-up and drop-off lines at Middlebrook Elementary in Lafayette are causing traffic problems on Camellia Boulevard.

The Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) acknowledges the ongoing traffic issues and indicates that this year’s increase in vehicle traffic is due in part to Middlebrook’s new status as an arts academy. This is the first year the school is operating under this designation, resulting in a greater number of magnet academy students who typically arrive by car.

“You have more magnet academy students going and traditionally magnet academy students are car riders. So, you have more cars going versus bus riders. That’s kind of the first problem,” Tracy Wirtz, LPSS Communications Director said…
