Cincinnati Man Confesses to Murder Following Bank Robbery Arrest, Charged With Killing Family Friend

In a surprising revelation following a bank robbery in Westwood, Cincinnati, 44-year-old James Courtney, during police custody, admitted to committing murder, this information coming directly from the Cincinnati Police. As reported by Cleveland 19, the dual crimes occurred on December 1, and the victim has been identified as 66-year-old Russell McCollum, a family friend of the accused.

Following his arrest for the bank heist, where he allegedly obtained over $1,000 from the Guardian Savings Bank, Courtney faced further scrutiny which led to the discovery of the murder, Local12 reports Courtney having been identified through a palm print at the bank, and detectives later found marked bills from the crime scene in his possession, along with a loaded firearm, which he was prohibited from possessing due to prior convictions, creating an upsettingly clear link between the man and both the robbery and the subsequent murder allegations.

An indictment on Thursday directly connects Courtney to McCollum’s shooting, who suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the head in Whitewater Township, Local12 adds.
