Trial set for 1 defendant in Suffolk horse neglect case

SUFFOLK, Va. — Two defendants accused of abusing and neglecting dozens of horses in Suffolk appeared in Suffolk Circuit Court Friday.

Janet Aston, 72, and William Shelton, 82, each face 96 indictments including failure to provide care for agricultural animals, leaving dead animals in public view and depriving animals of food.

On Friday, a judge set Aston’s four-day jury trial for Aug. 25-28 after she entered pleas of not guilty. A pre-trial hearing is set for July 20…
