Knoxville Wakes Up to Foggy and Humid Conditions, NWS Issues Hazardous Weather Outlook for East Tennessee

The National Weather Service in Knoxville has issued a foggy start to our day with 57°F temperatures and a soupy 100% humidity, as reported by the NWS website. Visibility stands at a mere 2.00 miles due to fog and mist blanketing the region, making for some cautious morning travel across the area. The day will also likely contain its share of wetness and noise with showers and possibly a thunderstorm anticipated, the light and variable wind will give way to a westerly flow at 5 to 10 mph come the morning with calmer conditions anticipated later tonight, clouds are expected to clear, ushering in a cooler low around 35 degrees, continuing the recent fluctuating weather patterns residents have been experiencing.

Looking ahead, the National Weather Service’s Hazardous Weather Outlook for East Tennessee suggests “isolated flooding will be possible through late this afternoon, mainly south of Interstate 40,” with additional details found in the area’s Flood Watch. While the brunt of the storms should clear by evening, the chance for some strong to damaging straight-line wind from these tempests cannot be entirely discounted. Sunday promises to turn a brighter leaf with a sunny, albeit brisk day forecasted, high winds gusting as fast as 25 mph – adding a little extra bite to the already brisk 42-degree high, the region should brace for a mostly clear night with a low around 24 degrees before staring down a sunny Monday and a high near 46.

The relatively tranquil weather is slated to continue into early next week as per the forecast, with Tuesday ushering in a sunny stretch that will take us to a comfortable 54 degrees, but that doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods just yet. By mid-week, rain showers re-enter the conversation with a 30 percent chance of precipitation on Wednesday, and a higher probability on Wednesday night, with the odds stacking up to a 50 percent chance. The see-saw effect of this winter’s whims is on full display come next Thursday with the potential for rain or freezing rain, making it clear that the usually predictable rhythms of the season have thus far, much like the rest of the world, been anything but predictable…
