PHOTOS: Humane Society Emergency Response Team saves downed horse ‘Jazzy’

ALPINE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Humane Society’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) on Saturday rescued a downed Palomino horse at an Alpine ranch, and this rescue was especially memorable for the team.

The 38-year-old horse named Jasmine, or affectionately known as “Jazzy,” had reportedly gone down sometime late Friday evening or early Saturday morning, and was unable to get back up on her own.

The ERT technical rescue team was dispatched around 8 a.m. to assist Jazzy. Due to her age and the amount of time she was down, specialized equipment and expertise were required to help her stand back up safely.

This particular rescue was especially meaningful because Jazzy had been owned by a beloved ERT member who had recently passed away. According to members of the ERT, rescuing Jazzy was not only a mission to save a distressed senior animal, but also a way for them to honor the memory of their late colleague…
