12 years for pushing chef onto Blue Line tracks, breaking cop’s nose

A man who badly injured a restaurant chef by pushing him onto the Blue Line tracks at the Division Street station has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the attack and for battering two police officers during his arrest, including one whose nose was broken.

Patterson, 36, had been arrested dozens of times and was on pretrial release in three separate cases when he shoved a Wicker Park restaurant chef onto the tracks around 9:30 p.m. on November 29, 2022.

The victim, Jose Duran, who was 28 years old at the time, said he was heading home from work at Schwa when Patterson pushed him off the platform at the Division Blue Line station. Duran suffered a broken nose, broken jaw, a fractured eye socket, and other injuries, prosecutors said.
