Late Grateful Dead member Bob Weir attended Fountain Valley School

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — Bob Weir, one of the co-founders of Grateful Dead, who passed away on Saturday, Jan. 10, attended Fountain Valley School in the early 1960s and met one of his former bandmates there, according to a 2015 press release from Fountain Valley School when Weir was honored at a reunion.

According to the release, Weir, wearing his school tie, received his diploma in front of a roaring crowd from Fountain Valley School in June of 2015, fifty years after he had been asked to leave the boarding school. The crowd included his 1965 classmates who were there for the school’s 85th anniversary.

In addition to receiving his diploma during the reunion, Weir was also inducted into Fountain Valley’s Arts Guild, which recognizes exemplary artistic careers by alumni.

Weir attended the school in 1962 and 1963, where he played on the football team. He was asked to leave the school due to “unrestrained exuberance,” as Weir put it during the reunion celebration…
