‘Dogs are worth saving’: Firefighters rescue dog in Nelson County

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A dog that had been missing for over 24 hours was rescued by firefighters in Nelson County on Saturday.

According to firefighters, people in the community had been searching for a missing dog, Fido, for over 24 hours when it was spotted halfway down a rock face over the Tye River.

Nelson Animal Control then called in the Wintergreen Fire and Rescue Department. First responders with the Piney River Fire Department and Lovingston Fire Department also assisted.

“The theory is the dog was chasing something when it fell off the top,” explained a spokesperson with WFRD. “It couldn’t go back up, and it didn’t want to go down…..and so it stayed on a narrow shelf.”…
