Madison City Council to vote on Costco annexation that would raise sales tax

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Madison City leaders will discuss Monday on whether to annex the 23-acre property that contains the Costco on Highway 72.

This decision would change which government collects property taxes and raises the sales tax customers pay at the store.

The Costco has been open for more than a year now and draws heavy shopper traffic. It currently sits inside Madison County, where shoppers pay a 7.5% sales tax on purchases…
