Dove Springs Standoff: Overnight SWAT Drama Ends In Quiet Arrest

What began as a late-night assault call in southeast Austin turned into an hours-long standoff early Saturday, ending just before dawn when a man barricaded inside an apartment finally surrendered to APD SWAT, according to police.

Austin officers say they were dispatched around 1:36 a.m. to a home in the 5000 block of Table Top Trail after a report that a man had assaulted a woman. The woman managed to leave the residence before calling the authorities. When officers arrived and attempted to contact the man, they got no response, and the department called in its SWAT unit, which showed up at about 3:45 a.m.

SWAT officers used tactics including repeated knocking and a loud airhorn before breaching the door and finding the man inside. Police say he surrendered without further incident at roughly 5:48 a.m. APD reports the individual is facing an aggravated assault, family violence charge, and emphasized there was no ongoing threat to the public as officers worked to clear the scene, according to CBS Austin.
